The things we do for our dogs...

I absolutely love LT. I wouldn't trade him for anything in the world! The only time when I question our decision to get a dog is when he needs to go to the vet. Here is the story...
LT was pretty lethargic on Sunday and Monday. He was just laying around and relaxing. I didn't think anything of it because we had a busy weekend, so I thought he was probably tired. On Tuesday, I noticed that he was keeping one of his eyes closed so I figured that he got into the rose bushes and scratched his eye. I went to rub out the eye goobers in his eye and he squealed...that was not good! Wednesday morning he was normal again...excited to see us, ready to eat, wanted to go for a walk, etc. I decided to still take him into the vet that evening because his eye had a blueish tint to it which was really weird. They did a couple eye tests and determined that it was corneal-edema. It is caused by over irritation to the eye and can possibly turn into an ulcer. He has it in both eyes, but one is more serious than the other. Oh no, the vet visit couldn't be simple, right?! They gave him a shot of anti-inflammatory and a prescription ointment to put in his eye 4 times a day. He seems to be doing much better now. He is energetic, wants to play and eat. He goes back for a re-check tomorrow to see how it is healing. He also had 3 vaccinations, his anal gland expressed, and his nails cut. LT truly got the 18 month "tune up."
The part about this story that kills me is the amount of money the vet charges for an hour long appointment. Here is a breakdown of the charges for the day...

Illness Exam-$51.00
3 Year Distemper Vaccination-$60.00
3 Year Rabies Vaccination-$18.50
1 Year Bordetella Vaccination-$16.50
Anal Sac-Express-$25.50
Corneal Stain-$33.00
Eye Pressure Test-$43.50
Nail Trim-$15.00
Anti-Inflammatory Injection-$50.00
Eye Ointment Prescription-$22.80

Grand Total-$335.80

Although it was a lot of money, his health is the most important thing to us. He is a part of our family, so no matter how expensive his treatment may be, we will still pay for it.

LT, next time lets go to to vet when we have a little extra money to spend! You're really good at getting sick when we're short on cash! :)
